Jade Order - Nintendo Switch ~ All Levels Beaten! (1-1 to 5-10)
9Jade Order is an indie puzzle game that intrigued me because of its gorgeous pixel art. I also thought the puzzle aspect seemed fun from watching the trailer. So was it?
In Jade order, you move on a grid-like map from one point to the other. After every step you take, the enemies that can move also take a step. Your goal is to destroy the required amount of enemies and then get to the portal to finish the stage. You can only attack enemies from the rear or from the side. If you attack them from the front, you're the one who will die. The goal is usually to manage to get them adjacent to you (because you always move first) so you can destroy them before they move away, or to get rid of them in a certain order so you can reach other enemies.
You can also get a treasure chest and finish the level in a specific number of moves for an extra challenge, but those are optional. I was originally planning on doing them, but ended up just focusing on clearing the levels as they became more challenging. Though I still got the chest or the moves when I could see the solution. Unfortunately, you cannot get the treasure chest AND complete the level under the required number of turns on the same attempt. Essentially, this forces you to replay every level at least twice if you want to clear the game 100%.
As you progress through the game, you'll gain new abilities, such as the ability to freeze an enemy or to teleport across an empty space. The enemies don't vary much throughout the game, though. It's always possible to "rewind" if you make a mistake, so that's good. I also appreciate the fact that even the final level only requires 47 moves to clear, and not a bazillion like some other puzzle games tend to do in their later stages.
Jade Order is fun for what it is. I enjoyed it.
