Fresh Meat:
No Country For Old Men and Skyfall star Javier Bardem is about to sign on to play Frankenstein’s monster. Variety reported that Bardem was originally approached to play Dr. Jekyll but passed allowing two-time Oscar winner Russell Crowe to unleash his inner brute as both Jekyll and his counterpart Mr. Hyde. The trade initially reported that Bardem would play “Frankenstein” but went on to clarify they meant the monster, not the scientist.
From the director of The Quiet Ones comes The Devil’s Candy, a tribute to family, Satan and METAL. Star Ethan Embry shared a new poster on his Twitter account last week unfortunately without a release date. The Devil’s Candy was met with positive reviews during it’s festival run
A few months back there were rumors that a new Saw movie could be coming our way. Despite it being six years since the alleged “Final Chapter“ the web heard rumblings of Saw: Legacy, a continuation of the already existing grisly franchise, earlier this year. Now a production notice has gone out in Canada looking to crew up and begin production in September in Toronto.
What’s In The Box?!:
FINALLY, Deadites, the wait is almost over: a teaser trailer for the second season of Ash vs. The Evil Dead has come online and from the looks of it, there will be blood. Lots and lots of blood. Starring Bruce Campbell, Dana DeLorenzo, Ray Santiago, and Lucy Lawless, the follow up to the cult favorite will see Ash and company leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove.
American Horror Story, which STILL hasn’t announced its theme for season six will premiere about a month early on Wednesday, September 14.
Fox has released three promos for their upcoming ten-episode adaptation of William Peter Blatty’s acclaimed novel The Exorcist. Premiering on Friday, September 23 at 9PM, the promos hint at more sinister things to come, including a look at a glassy-eyed figure (perhaps it’s Kinderman?), a frightened looking priest looking on as an exorcism is performed and Geena Davis’s Angela Rance insisting that a demon is coming to overtake her daughter. Since we last discussed Fox’s Exorcist adaptation, production has begun but the question remains: is this actual new footage from the series or material shot for the sole sake of promos?
Monster of the Week
Stranger Things, the much anticipated coming of age genre series, hits Netflix this Friday, and to say that we’re excited would be a slight understatement. It’s clear from the trailers that Stranger Things is a combination of your favorite Stephen King and Steven Spielberg stories from the 80s, so today’s Monster of the Week asks the question: what are some of your favorite genre – that’s horror, sci-fi, or fantasy – movies, TV shows, books, or games featuring a coming of age story alongside while also giving you nightmares?
