The Smart Lander for Investigating Moon mission, or 'SLIM', is the first moon landing for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) on January 19, 2024. SLIM's solar panels, however, failed to produce power and the lander lost power shortly after landing. The reason for the lack of power was the landing, as the lander is designed to rotate just before landing, and land on its side. However it overrotated, and landed engine-up, leaving the solar panels on one side instead of the top as planned.

Fortunately, both rovers that landed with it were unaffected, and as the sun moved the solar panels were able to generate power and revived the lander for the rest of the lunar day.
