"I told him [Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick] that I thought the transaction was anti-competitive, I hoped that the regulators would do their job and block it," said Ryan.
Ryan added that Kotick wanted to sign an extended deal with Sony to "cover himself."
"What Bobby wanted to do was cover himself by extending the marketing collaboration between Sony and Activision, in the event of the transaction not proceeding," said Ryan.

"I don't like it, but I have fundamentally no quarrel with it," said Ryan when asked about Starfield Xbox exclusivity.
Ryan when asked how he felt about Starfield skipping the PlayStation 5 he stated, "I don't like it, but I don't view it as anti-competitive."
Starfield launches on the Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass on September 6.

"I talked to all publishers they unanimously do not like Game Pass, because its value destructive," said Ryan. "[This is a] very commonly held view by publishers."
He added he had no reason to believe Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick would put Call of Duty on Xbox Game Pass if Microsoft were not acquiring the company.

"Cloud technology will become a meaningful component of how gamers access games between 2025 and 2035," said Ryan. "We’re making significant investments in cloud in anticipation of it becoming a very meaningful way of how gamers access games."
Ryan added PlayStation Now reached a peak of three million subscribers before Sony combined PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now into a single service with three separate tiers.

"We simply could not run the risk of a company that was owned by a direct competitor having access to that information," said Ryan.
Sony did decide to delay giving Microsoft PS5 dev kits in order for Mojang to work on a PS5 version of Minecraft.
"The development kits allow developers to have visibility and to work on the feature set that our new console will deploy," said Ryan. "It would a developer may bring its content to the new platform later than would otherwise be the case. The commercial risks associated with the knowledge of these feature sets leaking to our principle competitor is not something we’d rely on any contract to enforce."
