Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara to star in 'The Island' movie
Hollywood celebrity couple Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara will star in director Pawel Pawlikowski's dramatic thriller 'The Island'.
Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara will share the lead roles in the drama and thriller 'The Island' by Polish Oscar-nominated director Pawel Pawlikowski, known for films such as Ida, The Cold War, The Mysterious Woman. Inspired by real-life events, the film will tell the tension between an American couple who decided to get away from the modern world in the 1930s and try to establish their own paradise on a deserted island, and a millionaire countess who lands on this island.
In the movie, a millionaire sailing near the island on his yacht causes the couple to be the subject of the tabloids, and in the sequel, a smug countess turns up with her two lovers and plans to build a luxury hotel on the island. As the psychological war begins between the countess and the American couple, sexual infidelity, betrayal and conflicts that lead to murder are experienced among those who come to the island.
Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara duo, who will portray the American couple, had previously starred in 2013's 'Her' and 2018's 'Mary Magdalene'. The other cast members of the movie have not been announced yet.
The film will be written and directed by Pawlikowski and will be produced by Tanya Seghatchian and John Woodward for Apocalypso Pictures and Brightstar. Filming will begin in 2023.
Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara couple have been together since 2017 and welcomed their first child in 2020.
