A pair of predators who sexually assaulted young girls in various parts of Queensland, including at nudist beaches and motels, claimed their convictions were "clearly extreme". John Patrick Meehan and Jessica Cinnamon Anderson-Grigson failed in their bid to overturn their convictions for harassment of two young female victims. In 2021, jury found Meehan guilty 12 counts improper treatment child under the age 16, five counts sexual intercourse with child under the age 16, perpetuation sexual intercourse with child, and one count sodomy. Meehan and Anderson-Grigson had an affair in 2012 and 2013 when the crime was committed. They were convicted for a series of incidents that occurred at nudist beaches, motels and in his car in the Noosa area. John Patrick Meehan and Jessica Cinnamon Anderson-Grigson were unable to get their convictions overturned on appeal. NCA NewswireDan Peled. Meehan's crime involved two female victims aged 14 to 15 in 2012 and 2013, and was sentenced to two years in prison. The court was told that Anderson-Grigson would take two young girls to the Sunshine Coast, where crimes were committed. Anderson-Grigson was found guilty five counts of improper treatment a child and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Meehan had previously been jailed for other crimes in 2019, including having sex with a child and raping three young victims. He was sentenced to 16 years and eight months in prison for these crimes and was told he would not be eligible for parole until July 2032. Anderson-Grigson was already serving 11 years and three months in prison for inciting a minor to rape and sodomy. Both appealed against their convictions, arguing that they were not supported by the evidence, while Meehan challenged the severity of her sentence. At the trial, they tried to argue that they had a reasonable belief that both girls were 16 years of age or older at the time. Judges David Boddice, Peter Flanagan and Thomas Bradley found on Friday that the jury's decisions were reasonable and that there was evidence the couple had knowledge of their victims being younger. The Court of Appeal also dismissed judge's argument that summary submitted to jury did not adequately represent defense case. Furthermore, Meehan failed to claim that her two-year sentence was "clearly excessive" as both appeals were dismissed on all grounds.
