Just over a year ago, Internet Archive user dizzzy uploaded a cover scan of a fake-looking template cover for Mad Trix that didn't have a serial or anything, and had some sloppily-edited text printed over the front:

After I was shown this today, I found that it had been submitted to Redump, and I later found the disc image file on the Internet Archive. This build is amazing for two reasons:

1. It PREDATES the build shown by IGN, containing barely any game mechanics, worse controls, extremely unfinished graphics, and very early course designs. This video is the first time the world has seen it, outside of the devs who worked at 3DO.

2. It has given birth to the modding community.

It has all of its debugging info intact. Not just symbols, but a lot of stuff I don't understand that makes it infinitely more valuable. Basically, now that we have the debugging info from this build, we don't need the retail source code anymore - we can modify LITERALLY ANYTHING now, and with a ludicrously low amount of effort and/or guesswork. Repacking archives? Easy. Course editing? Making the required tools is now much easier. Importing SSX courses into the game? Likely. Adding a walking mechanic? Sure, why not? Finding new speedrun strats? Very likely. Adding Moseley Cookies to Las Vegas? Of course. Finally solving the Skier X unlock mystery? Abso-freaking-lutely! This is a literal goldmine, and that's downplaying it by a lot.

Mad Trix is now the optimal game to mod and program for. On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being "you can't mod the game" and 10 being "you have the original source code", we just went from a 1.5 to a 9. I'd say Sly Cooper modding is at a 3 or a 4. Yeah. This is a big deal, and to think this has been sitting right under our noses for just over a year - it was scanned, dumped, and uploaded on August 2nd, 2022!

This is a historic moment for the small but powerful Mad Trix community. The only remaining question I have is why does this build even exist? It's earlier than the IGN build, so why did it get a fancy case? Seems like something a dev leaked. inb4 it was the dev I talked to on Twitter that one time.
