Jump King Full First Playthrough
23Frustrating but fair. With controls limited to a direction and very precisely timed jump height, this game is very simple to learn the basics, but it quickly turns that into a bit of a mind game. The jumps get progressively harder, but considering everything is under your control and easily understood, your failures are your own.
Add to that the (at this point) familiar gimmick of falling meaning you have to retrace your steps and climb back up, and it can get pretty frustrating.
The thing I liked most about this game was how readable each section was. Whenever a new mechanic was introduced (for example: bouncing off of walls, wind, snow, ice), the punishments were pretty light for failure until you had some way of understanding it. There would be a few hard jumps here and there as well as a few freebies that I think were really just meant to cause you to space out and forget how to do some jumps. Then in just about every section there would be a jump that wasn't too difficult, but the penalty for failure was high.
This video is my first playthrough of Jump King, edited for time. I placed a timer at the top left to give some sense of how long each section took. It's not perfectly accurate, but it should help demonstrate how much time I spent backtracking. Originally I played on 4 different days. This video contains the full first playthrough in a single video. I had not seen another Jump King playthrough nor did I look up any information about the game before or during the playthrough.
