Jumping around (QUAKE LIVE)
131Nothing spectacular, just jumping around and trying to find original tricks in 2017 lol..
Was browsing the interwebs for Quake Live tricks to see what people been doing: It's mostly rocket jumping, space ctf jumps, some freestyle and some really old videos from 2009 lol. So I compiled a video from what I think are some original trickjumps, focusing on some uncommon techniques such as wall slides, plasma doubles, jump skips, delayed jumps etc.. I also picked up some known tricks in an attempt to improvise on them.
1:33 - this might look like an oridinary RA jump - but it really isn't. What I do there is delay the last jump a little bit, to prevent hitting the wall on the right side. It's basically a mini CJ and jumping before the friction drags all my speed down. Kudos to anyone who can mimic this trick. It's a good place to benchmark your jump delaying skills, but otherwise a pretty arbitrary trick.
2:36 - No-Beat style refers to the strafing technique where only one direction is being pressed and never let go. This technique requires the most mouse movement (unless you deliberately add more movement). I prefer using forward only, but any other cross/diagonal direction works as well.
Tricks from 3:21 forwards depend on the autohop feature and I don't know if they're possible without it. What happens there is I walk towards angled walls and double jump off of them (I'm assuming the hitbox steps on inside the wall or something). It works on most angled walls and some curved ones as well, though I found them hard to do consistently.
Closing words: Quake Live could use less flatness and less clipping those beautiful rocks and slopes, so I would have more tricks to find lol. I have this issue with most arena shooters, but Quake Live is on another level.
