Jumping Into Baby Steps (It's A Bennett Foddy)
1Oh lord! This is my first 6 and a half hours with Baby Steps, the new game from Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy. The last of those three is perhaps the most infamous of them and is famous for obtuse, difficult and punishing games. This game is one of those. It's a game about walking where you must manually lift each foot off the ground and position it just so to take each step. At first it seems impossible but in time I was not only walking but climbing goddamn mountains... while sometimes falling down them.
Also, the game has pretty fucking good writing. The premise is that the dude needs to find a bathroom to take a leak in (I thought it was a dump - please understand) and everyone he meets is really weird about it, especially the horse men hanging dong. It's really quite something!
I went into this stream without much planned to talk about and sort of ended up talking about a bit of everything as I went. Turns out when you're sliding down a mountain and climbing it for the third time there's time to go on fucking tangents. Topics included mountains I've reached the top of myself, peeing outdoors, Toy Story 5, backyard possibilities, The ROG Xbox Ally X, the next gen of consoles, the AYN Thor, Wicked, general nostalgia, the likelihood of an AI future and even some relatively serious topics I've been meaning to talk about.
Anyway, I don't know if I'll do more of this on stream, this was a lot of fun but maybe best as a one off. It might be 20 hours long? Maybe I'll stream the Manbreaker once I get to that. We'll see! By the way, I boosted the audio a bit after the stream, the game is still pretty quiet most of the time - it's just like that.
