Game name - Kaiketsu Yancha Maru
Original Title - 快傑ヤンチャ丸
Console - Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)
Game Release - 1987-10-02
Publisher - Irem
Genre - Action
A side-scrolling action game in which Yanchamaru fights to rescue a captured princess. There are 8 stages in total, and a boss will appear at the end of each stage.
Yanchamaru's action is a simple game typical of the early Famicom, with only sword attacks and jumping. It is unique in that it attacks by rotating rather than slashing with the sword. There are time-limited power-ups such as shuriken, but basically there are no items or power-ups.
There are some difficult points, such as areas where the enemy attacks are intense and difficult boss battles, but the game is designed to be easy to play, with no restrictions on continuing, and even if you make a mistake, you can restart from the middle of the stage. I think it's about normal.
I think the game as a whole is made fairly well, with the light controls, comical graphics, and rhythmic BGM all going well together. It feels really good to blow away enemies with a rotating sword. The bosses of each stage were unique and quite challenging and rewarding. It's a simple game, but I think it's surprisingly fun.
The emulator used is "Nestopia".
