Kaitei Daisensou - Gameplay Pt 2 of 2
0Kaitei Daisensou , aka In the Hunt in Europe and the US, is a pretty wacky and comical underwater shmup that has a real charm to it despite offering nothing particularly new or exciting. Part of that charm lies in the beautifully drawn 2D graphics with all sprites in the game being lavished with great attention to detail. Animations such as explosions and water effects are excellent and each stage ends with a screen-filling boss encounter to overcome. The game offers music that is easy on the ear and a real challenge particularly in the later stages.
Rather surprisingly for a 2D Saturn shmup, the game suffers from quite a bit of slowdown. It doesn't hamper the gameplay too much but is still disappointing nonetheless. The game is also very short and may not provide the kind of longevity that hardcore shmup fans look for.
As a quick blast however, it's hard to pass up and offers plenty of fun excitement while it lasts.
