KF2 Summer 2020 Preview 1: Blind Testing the HRG Teslauncher
Alt Title: "Local bad player first' look at the new HRG Teslauncher"
This was recorded during KF2's Summer 2020 Preview #1 on the 19th of May.
TLDR: I don't understand why they made this gun...
The HRG Teslauncher is a very awkward gun made for the berserker that provides high microwave(?) damage with a decent fire rate and recoil. While the ammo pool is quite low and probably meant for big zeds it's still useable on all zeds without needing to switch weapons often if you have good trigger discipline. The only issue I have with it is that the visual effects of the gun constantly obscures whats in front of you every time you shoot so it takes a few rounds to get used to being blind for a tenth of a second every time you fire it.
I say that this is an awkward gun since the more I think about it in technicality and thematically the more I feel like this shouldn't be a berserker weapon at all.
At one hand it feels like it should be a firebug weapon since it's using microwave damage but why would firebugs get another weapon when they already got the HRG Incendiary Rifle last update? It might have been cool to see this being the "alternate" version of the HRG Incendiary Rifle that focuses on big zeds with microwave damage and have the alt fire shoot a grenade that produces a big microwave blast but that would make the Helios Rifle useless.
On the other hand it feels like it's a survivalist weapon since the under barrel EMP grenade launcher is a good way of using CC but no one would care since nobody plays the survivalist. Not to mention that CC in this game means next to nothing since why would you spend the time debuffing the zeds when you can just kill it?
If you also include the berserker perks into the factor as well then half the perks are comepletly useless since they all focus on melee weapons. I don't think Tripwire is planning on reworking the berserker perks to work with all berserker perks so this gun feels like this was a rushed idea.
If I had to guess then I would say this weapon is probably meant for players who wants to level up their berserker perk online but don't want to piss off the other players by being a berserker and walking in between a zed and a sharpshooter's (or any other perk's) shot every single time a zed appears. OR this is for players who have trouble staying alive in the game and need the help of the berserker's survivability but doesn't fully understand the melee system.
But I'm pretty sure none of those are the case so I really don't know why this gun exists.
