wooooo terranort
Unfortunately Terra's fight against him is much more fun, and is part of why I prefer playing as Terra in general. I can't manipulate Terranort's AI if I can't dodge across the front of him, so I have to approach the fight very differently.
This was also the first fight I recorded using my fancy new fightstick that I bought for rhythm games. (I recorded this before Ventus-Vanitas.) As with the final bosses, I used a separate save file so as to not have to grind through Mirage Arena again.
Also, the Surge strats are kind of lame, but there's not exactly a variety of ways to fight this guy at Level 1 without moving. I've done Spellweaver strats and Goofy strats before, which work for both phases, and Peter Pan works for the last phase as well. However, if people show interest, I might take my level 60 Aqua through this fight to see what kinds of limits I can push.
*PHASE 1*
I, uh, face-tank a lot of hits in this fight.
There's some weird stuff you can do with Counter Blast to block the entirety of Ars Solum, which is otherwise impossible (seen at 0:50). The timing window is very small. You can also use Counter Blast to put down mines during Ars Solum, which is a fantastic source of damage if you don't mind getting hit a lot.
There's also a lot of weirdness with blocking Terranort's attacks. I don't know if it's random, or if there's something specific to the timing. I'll have to analyze this stuff frame-by-frame later, I guess.
Putting down Mines when he's not already doing something will force him to use Dark Haze every time he gets near you. It's a decent option if you need time for your cooldowns to recover.
I have no idea why he was so fond of Ultima Cannon in the last minute or so of the fight.
Someday I might try to do this fight No Movement No Second Chance/Once More, but it'll be a while.
Attempts: ~40
Difficulty (No Movement): 8/10
Difficulty (Regular Level 1): 6/10
Controller used: Qanba Obsidian
*PHASE 2*
I apologize in advance if you hear any muffled speech in the background. I didn't realize the headphones I had on had a mic in them (don't ask how I didn't know that, I have no idea).
I get frame-trapped a lot by his copy of Ansem II's DM in KH1. Kind of annoying, but that progresses the fight a bit quicker.
The only way to avoid the shockwave attack is to Thunder Surge through it. Oh, actually, I could probably jump over it. Damn. Too late now. That's the move I died to the most, aside from his dashing Ars Solum (which is pretty BS since it lacks the audio cue).
Before I tried this fight with these restrictions, I had never seen the move where the Guardian grabs you, either.
Attempts: 25
Difficulty (No Movement): 7/10
Difficulty (Regular Level 1): 2/10
Controller used: Qanba Obsidian
