AIR BATTLE - (0:47 - 5:14)
Palutena needed to remind Pit of the Underworld's Reapers. Those really annoying skeletons that freaked out and chased after Pit while calling for Reapettes to also swarm him. They even had a little tune to go with their alerts.
At present, they now had established a fortress near the Underworld's entrance.
Much to Pit's concern, Palutena needed him to raid that fortress. She needed some way to reach another one of Medusa's top commanders, Pandora, yet another mighty fiend that Pit faced 25 years ago.
Pandora was residing with her own Labyrinth of Deceit, but Palutena can't reach the labyrinth's location until Pit raids the Reaper fortress.
----
Later, Pit encountered a swarm of red lights. They were Reaper sights!
Palutena then had to redirect Pit through a ravine, that will still bring Pit towards the Reaper fortress. The ravine itself was crawling with more Underworld forces and fierce winds.
----
Eventually, Pit does reach the fortress, but then he just barely dodges the lasers shooting at him from the sky. So Palutena instead had to smash him through the front to enter into it.
Remember, if Pit is close enough to land during an Air Battle, he'll actually run with his feet until lift him off from it, again. Nice little charm, there.
----------
LAND BATTLE - (5:14 - )
It's here where Pit will have more direct contact against the Reapers. They're just as crazy as they were in the NES game, if not moreso. They will still call Reapettes to swarm you while also chasing you down themselves with their scythes.
----
Palutena even delivers some heartfelt backstory to Pit about the purpose of the Reapers...
They harvest and carry the souls of dead Overworld humans, and then bring them to the Underworld. There were A LOT of souls carried by them recently, which made Palutena assume that humans started a new war. A war that would claim many of their own lives...
This broke Palutena's heart, as she was so busy with other duties that she had little time to bless humanity with her divine powers to prevent such tragedies...
However, Pit tried to cheer the Goddess of Light up, proclaiming that she's just doing the best that she can, and that humanity still puts their love and faith into her.
----
One of the deadliest enemies in the game is the floating skulls called Orne. IF THEY HIT PIT JUST ONCE, HE'S FINISHED!
Like the Reapers, they also have their own 8-Bit theme song.
----
Another mechanic in this game are Grind Rails. Get close to one, and Pit will ride its path to other places.
(Unfortunately, the most tedious thing about emulating this game is that these things are invisible for some reason. Thankfully, they're still usable, but not being able to see them might cause later issues.)
A later section will have you shoot targets to extend the length of a spiraling rail to continue onward.
----
Another notorious old enemy are the Eggplant Wizards! They're back, too!
They have more ways to turn Pit into a walking eggplant. He STILL can't fight in this form. Thankfully, Palutena's power will eventually restore him back to normal, because, in her own words: "There aren't any hospitals in this game."
----
Clubberskulls are so tough that they have to be sealed. Break the seal, and get ready for one Hell of a fight against them.
----
There are two Hot Springs in this level. They're next to each other, but one is... decidedly more poisonous to Pit than the other one...
----------
At the end of this course, Pit encounters one more Reaper, but then it turns out to be the leader of them: The Great Reaper! This one must be defeated to reveal Pandora's Labyrinth of Deceit!
You will have to fight on two level or planes. You can either strike its feet, or moreso attack its head, ESPECIALLY when its health is low enough to deal the finishing blow!
----------
This fight, no matter how well you did, was a fight that almost got Pit killed. He still enjoyed his company with Palutena despite this, though.
This confirmed to Lady Palutena that Pit needed some new friends.
For now, with the Great Reaper defeated, it was time to hunt down Pandora!
