=== About this Song ===

I remember the very first time I saw a Killer Instinct arcade cabinet in person. I was skiing in New Jersey and we were getting hungry so my family and I took a break from the slopes to go to the cafeteria at the base of the mountain. I remember the cheap burgers and slices of pizza they had ready to eat under the heat lamps, but more than that I remembered the line of arcade games they had set up in one of the corners of the restaurant.

In the middle of those games was a brand new Killer Instinct cabinet. I had already read about the game and seen screenshots in "Nintendo Power" but to be able to watch the game in motion - in 1994 - was incredible. The characters were so massive and colorful. The backgrounds were so vividly detailed and interesting. And the bass-heavy, thumping sound and music were unlike anything I'd heard in an arcade game to that date.

In the world of fighting games, Killer Instinct looked and felt so fresh and impressive, and I was drawn to it ever since seeing it in the cafeteria arcade that day. I was getting more into game music during this time and I loved the punchy, modern sound that the game featured.

I actually came up with the idea of remixing "The Instinct" in reverse. I was listening to a trance playlist in the gym, and a song came on that immediately reminded me of the Killer Instinct theme, so I thought I would give remixing it a shot.

Though the original song is a more rock-oriented piece, I felt the melody lent itself well to a trance song. It wasn't till I was well into remixing the song that I sat back and really appreciated how beautiful the original melody of this track was. It's a simple tune, but to me it still evokes a sense of perseverance, longing, and hope throughout its melody.

I had a great time trying to incorporate various elements from the original such as the metallic clanks and the chunky guitar chords (which I ended up turning into a synth line in the middle of the song). The original track was a fantastic song to set the tone for the game and the series going forward, and I loved putting together this more dance-oriented arrangement of it.
