Killzone Shadow Fall was a launch title for the PS4. The reviews weren’t terrible but it still flopped. So what happened?

I never played Shadow Fall back in 2013 despite being a big fan of the PS3 Killzone games but with the PS5 and Xbox Series out, I thought now might be an interesting time to go back, to see if maybe the reviews at the time had been overly harsh.

What I discovered was an incredibly beautiful and polished game, with arguably the best controls in the series. Unfortunately it also somehow manages to be the least interesting, and least Killzone game in the franchise.

This Killzone Shadow Fall review will discuss how Guerrilla Games got it so wrong and why launch titles often fail.
