Killzone | Vektan Slums | Deathmatch | Chaingun Spree | Hard
2018-06-04 - Final Score: 26-0
Been meaning to get back into emulation, and I have hundreds of hours in Killzone's Battlefields (Botzone in later iterations of the series) mode in the past. Time to get back to this game almost 14 years after its release. I still have the very scratched disk around, which miraculously works. I'm starting out with this as it's my favourite FPS on PS2 (likely, my favourite PS2 in general).
Been playing with a PS4 controller as this game doesn't behave well with a mouse. If I set emulator mouse sensitivity to low it feels like the mouse can't respond at all to small movement, making precise aim difficult but turning easy. If I set emulator mouse sensitivity to high, precise aim is still difficult because the smallest movement now registers but even that will lead to a large turn... the game plays much better with a controller as it was designed to.
Match Settings:
Deathmatch - Difficulty: Hard - 14 bots - 10 spawns
Gameplay is capped at 50 FPS as the copy of the game is PAL. Runs at about 70 FPS when uncapped, which makes the game practically in fast-motion... I suppose game speed is somehow tied to a fixed framerate on consoles. Not sure what causes the occasional freezes, will mess around with emulator settings more.
I intend to run through most of the maps and weapons gradually over the course of this year, interspersed with other uploads.
I'm interested in comments from those who have found ideal settings with PCSX2 to play this game, or any of the following PS2 releases which I also intend to visit at a later time:
SOCOM 1/2/3 (I do not own SOCOM: CA), Scarface: The World Is Yours, Metal Gear Solid 2/3, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun
