KING GEORGE V PLAYING FIELD PARKRUN! A challenging grass parkrun located in the Midlands in Cheltenham! This fairly hilly, to undulating parkrun utilises mostly grass, with small sections on grass and trail, and it is around the Saracens RFC playing fields! Join me as I provide an in-depth review of the King George V Playing Field Parkrun experience.
Starting on hard standing ground next to the main rugby pitch near the Brooklyn Road entrance, the course runs around the rugby pitch before completing three anti-clockwise laps of the playing fields. Each lap runs almost straight down one side and then dog-legging back up the three banked areas avoiding the pitches and boggy areas, skipping the main rugby pitch. We then finish close to where we started back towards the main rugby pitch.
Dogs and buggies/prams are allowed at this parkrun and there are public toilets near to the start at the Saracens Rugby club, therefore, it is great for facilities! As the route is majority grass, trail shoes are recommended, but in summer months when the ground is hard, road shoes should be OK. In terms of how busy the parkrun is, it is a nice and quiet parkrun with around 76 people. At the start, in between the trees, there is a small bottleneck which slows you down but only lose a couple of seconds there. With it being a fairly hilly parkrun and mostly on grass, it is unlikely you will get a PB!
The weather was OK on the day, grey skies but no rain and the perfect temperature for a run. The atmosphere was great and there were some great volunteers to keep you going! This is the 45th parkrun I have recorded on the channel of which you can find a playlist of them below:
