Kingdom Hearts Re:coded started out as a Japanese mobile game that came out in 2008. It tells the tale of Sora reviving the pages in Jiminy Cricket's journal by entering familiar Disney universes to rid them of digital bugs. The story doesn't further the Kingdom Hearts fiction and ends up being really silly.

While this is an action RPG, the gameplay in Re:coded has been enhanced with the addition of the command deck which first appeared in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Sora can now set up a series of spells and abilities to strategically take down enemies and bosses. There is a fleshed out level up system that works well and gives you the freedom the assign specific strengths and abilities for Sora. There are also a variety of gameplay elements included (shooter, stealth and turn-based RPG), which keeps things fresh. Unfortunately, fiddling with the camera during combat is an issue. Even though there is a lock on mechanic the camera still finds a way to hinder the gameplay at times.

Fans of the Kingdom Hearts series will enjoy the presentation since it allows you to explore environments from the series. While some may consider it a rehash it feels more like a trip down memory lane.

Although this isn't an entirely new experience and the story isn't that great, Kingdom Hearts Re:coded is an iteration in the series that fans and newcomers will definitely enjoy!
