Klagmar's Top VGM #4,300 - Outer Wilds - The Travelers
These #X00 slots are always meant to feature some of my favorite games, and I’d be hard-pressed to come up with an experience more magical than that of Outer Wilds and its DLC. There is no other game that so perfectly captures the experience of exploration and discovery as you work to uncover the secrets of this complicated solar system. I will never forget the magic of playing this game for the first time, though sometimes I wish I could just so I could do it all over again!
Outer Wilds would have been a masterpiece on its own if it was just focused on the puzzle-solving and exploration, but it’s doubly impressive that it ties in a really lovely message about how insignificant we are in the face of the universe, and that that’s okay and we can all still find meaning.
I love the banjo being featured so prominently in the soundtrack and how it adds an incongruous feeling of homeliness to this grand space adventure. “The Travelers” is the combination of all the instruments played by your fellow space adventurers, which is an ingenious way the game ensures you never feel too lonely no matter how deep into space you are. “Travelers’ Encore,” is the updated version from the Echoes of the Eye DLC that features the new instrument. They all play the game’s main motif, so I included the other tracks from the soundtrack that most heavily feature it.

A list of my favorite video game music. It's not in any order, and is intended purely for entertainment. Perhaps it will also introduce a few obscure titles or unknown songs. Enjoy!
