Knights-Errant Dio Promus, Antaka Cyvaan and Wyrd-wraith Promeus Miniatures
Spoilers for Horus Heresy Book 44 The Crimson King by Graham McNeill
00:08 Dio Promus – the Chief Librarian of the XIIIth during the Council of Nikaea and then a Knight-Errant of Malcador the Sigilite. I worked in as much detail as I could from The Crimson King. This is Promus from the fight against the shard of Magnus on Nikaea, during which the shard splits Promus' helmet down the middle with the pommel of his khopesh (hence the discarded damaged helmet on the base and the head injury).
The book mentions him having a psy hood, a skull topped staff, a bolter, a bolt pistol and a gladius at various points so they are all present. It mentions him having a protective sigil on his vambraces inscribed by the first ever Chief Librarian of the Ultramarine, Ptolemy Soter, that burn out from a psychic blast, so I added glowing sigils to his vambraces.
I converted from the Chief Librarian Tigurius primaris miniature ( https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Ultramarines-Chief-Librarian-Tigurius-2020 ), it seemed appropriate to use the current 40K UM Chief Librarian as a starting point, reasoning that it's possible some of Promus' wargear was recovered and repatriated to become relics of the XIIIth. I removed any identifiably Mk X power armour features (the rims on the knees, the circular plate ankles, the Mk X power pack swapped for a Mk VI). I removed ultimas from the knee, chest and staff and turned the leather gloves into vambraces. I added a power line to exposed armour below the sternum, filled in the gap at the front of the collar and removed some other details from Tigurius. I used a gladius hand from the plastic Mk III kit, a Blood Angels Death Company plastic head instead of the Tigurius head, put the librarius pauldron on the left shoulder and used a recast of the Knights-Errant pauldron from the Garro miniature on the right. I also trimmed the cloak back from what Tigurius has, keeping the same halo-ed skull icons on the corners of the cloak, but inverted on the outside.
00:46 Antaka Cyvaan – a former Librarian of the XIXth, sent to support Promus and Yasu Nagasena on the mission in The Crimson King. He is the other possible Knight-Errant who could have become Ogen, one of the eight founding Grey Knight Grand Masters. After reading The Crimson King and Grey Raven, I strongly think Balsar Kurthuri is the much more likely identity of Ogen. We get very little detail on Cyvaan in The Crimson King. He has childhood brands on his face, a shadow of black hair, a psy hood, is as tall as Promus but but appears slender in comparisson. In the book he stays behind on the ship the Arethusa for the events portrayed in the book. On Kamiti Sona, Promus asks Yasu Nagasena if Cyvaan destroyed the Thousand Sons' vessel, and Nagasena answers “He is Raven Guard” (the implication being that you can trust he took care of business), so I had him standing on a TS helmet.
He is a very straight forward conversion from an Age of Darkness Mk VI beakie ( https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/legiones-astartes-mk6-tactical-squad-2022 ) with a primaris assault intercessor plastic head, grey knight rear torso for the psy hood, combat knife from the Mk VII tactical box, standing on a Thousand Sons Scarab Occult terminator helmet.
01:26 Promeus – he was originally Lemuel Gaumon, a Thousand Sons rememberencer, Ahriman's pupil, TS neophyte then daemonhost to a shard of Magnus. He takes on the name Promeus at the end of the Crimson King to honour Dio Promus. Bodvar Bjarki, a Space Wolf rune priest watch pack leader tells Promeus in The Fury of Magnus that he is a wyrd-wraith, and after being possessed by the shard of Magnus he is now immune to daemonic possession. Promeus goes on to become one of the four founders of the Inquisition, the other three as of The End and the Death Volume 1 seemingly being Lastaan Neemagiun Veritus (Kyril Sindermann), Moriana Mouhausen and Zaranchek Xanthus.
I based the conversion on the artwork of Promeus from Horus Heresy Legions (not sure who the artist is because cannot find clear credits for HHL). In The Fury of Magnus he is mentioned to have a high-end, glossy shiny black augmetic left arm, though I don't believe he lost it in The Crimson King so he has to lose it after The Crimson King but before the Fury of Magnus.
I used a Mentalist ( https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-mentalists-222241 ) from Red Pilgrim Miniatures ( https://www.patreon.com/redpilgrim ) as a base for the body, with a plastic imperial guard head, staff made from brass rod and a washer, lightning from bent paperclips, and then most of the original details scraped off the printed miniature and everything else added and sculpted with green stuff.
