The game is reminiscent of the classic platformers Crash Bandicoot, Super Mario 64, Sonic, Banjo-Kazooie, Psychonauts, and SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom without limited lives and Game Over screens.
To join the pirate team, Koa needs to explore the islands and complete the pirate challenge.
Each island contains a series of platforming trials and boss fight.
These platforming segments can be completed at any rate (you don’t have to acquire a specific score to continue), but you’ll be graded based on your completion time, how much of the seashells and collectibles you managed to gather.
The cartoonish animation style is lovingly crafted gives the game an incredible personality and charm that is completely endearing.
Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara does its job well, even while suffering from the camera issues that 3D platformers are often known for.
