Now here's a game I haven't played in literal ages, despite me owning it's sequel. This is also the PAL version of the game, so MERCIFULLY, I won't have to torture your ears with the god awful English dub of this game. Anyways, KOF Maximum Impact is the PS2/Xbox 3D spinoff series to the main one, set in an alternate timeline and focused around a new age of gang warfare taking over the legendary Southtown with brothers Alba and Soriee Miera as the main characters. Basically, SNK's attempt of testing the waters of doing polygonal fighters in an era where Tekken 4 was still the relevant Tekken game, this game may have some traditional SNK gameplay in it, but it's main feature where the character specific Stylish dial-a-combos that one can use in order to string together damage, as well as the walled arenas where you can bounce opponents off of to continue combos and pressure. Supers are still a thing but more limited than usual KOFs, and a totally... um... questionable and detrimental guard point system instead of a traditional guard gauge.
The series is also 1-on-1 by default (until Regulation A), and the roster is no longer full of teams, mainly it's the most popular KOF mainstays mixing it up with some original MI characters specifically made for this series by then series creator and artist, Falcoon, and yeah, his designs back then sure weren't appreciated at the time, but seem to be catching traction this day and age.
That being said, our favorite Psycho Idol has a date with Duke, the dark skinned and cheap head of Mephistopeles, and it's never nice to leave an audience waiting... Next game after this, a "hard mode" revisit to KOF Maximum Impact 2 [2006]...
