Well here we are with the finale of the 2002 triple threat, and possibly my most edited playthrough to date, simply because 2002 Unlimited Match has TONS to offer with just a normal run and I didn't want to miss out on showing a majority of it. Simply put, 2002 UM is the biggest KOF game to date as far as roster goes, dreammatch or otherwise. It features a gigantic 66 SELECTABLE CHARACTERS, basically reintroducing every character playable from KOF '99 to '01 that missed the last two versions of 2002, all with full movelists, added moves, and even new voicing at the time for certain characters, completely redone stages and especially soundtrack and the introduction of Nameless, the new replacement to K9999 whom SNK put on a bus to hell immediately after becoming SNK Playmore some years after the original 2002 released. The experimental gameplay grooves of Neowave are nowhere to be found and UM goes right back to how vanilla 2002 handles meter with very minor upgrades (I.e. being able to use SDMs and HSDMs outside of max mode at the cost of 3 bars).
As there is SO much to cover in just one round, Athena decided to go through the gauntlet and revisit her past demons from the NESTS saga one last time one by one, brick by boring brick... and at the end, she finally, FINALLY confronts Omega Rugal in a finale as this is the last game (so far....) to feature him as a boss in some capacity. However, knowing SNK, they just have to find a way to throw a curve ball at Athena no matter how hard she tries...
Next video takes us on our second detour just before tackling KOF 2003 and the Tales of Ash Saga, but for it, Athena's going to get her first taste of 3D polygon work..... Next up: KOF: Maximum Impact.
