as a culmination of all the tests and missions Astron I has performed, the Astron I-L is now given a chance to fulfill one of its main purpose: to land the first kerbals on the Mun.

***

launch was nominal, but during stage separation only one of the four drain valves drained the fuel, causing the booster to flip around rapidly. the main stage was able to rendezvous and dock with the lander on LKO, and refueling was successful. the fuel was sufficient enough for trans-Munar injection, capture burn, and rendezvous with the tanker on LMO. the fuel from the tanker was then used for the rest of the landing operations.

options for landing areas are narrowed down to places along the equator (for minimal inclination changes) and along the terminator line (so that terrain have shadows), and the northern edge of the East crater (?) were chosen for the landing. a Mun arch was found on the very edge of the crater (near the landing site) as the vehicle is descending, but landing near the arch was not pursued because it was too late to change the trajectory of the vehicle without risking running out of fuel. the landing occurred on a sloped area, but the landing was still successful.

all the footage used here was part of the first two hours of a seven-hour recording (three of which was of the return of the crew and the rest were either timelapses or frozen frames). because most of the recordings were just frozen frames due to lag, i decided to change the way i edit, cutting out most of the mission and used the newly-composed background music, "liftoff", as a basis for the editing. this will serve as practice for future videos.

i'll be taking a break from recording KSP playthroughs, so the next one might take a while. if i have free time i might upload the return of the crew to Kerbin. i'll probably land something on Minmus or work on Astron II when i get back. i hope you enjoyed this mini-series.
