"In this album, the Boss's music spans a wide range of genres. It's a bit of a stretch to call it a concept, but the watchword with Aoshima-san was “the music the Boss listens to at the weekend”.
The music is based around progressive rock, but the majority of the music is played live. In particular, the solo sections feature a battle of solos between various instruments, and despite the small ensemble, it still manages to pack in a real sense of a hot session. The drums, bass, saxophone and percussion were recorded as an ensemble in Berlin, and you can enjoy the organic interplay between the musicians as they match the intensity of the solos."

"In The Fierce Rivalry the combination of the sounds that I chose creates a feeling of continuous tension, enhancing the element of challenge and conflict.
Sound textures from objects such as chains, wood or even distorted metal elements add a more harsh almost primitive character.
Copper bells clang on surfaces, different types of Asian cymbals and gongs create sound waves that pulsate through the space and because of the rock character of the piece I choose to add the bongos low tuned.
All of these together act as a sonic canvas that enhances the drama and explosive energy of The Fierce Rivalry."
