It was a normal day. Merchants sold random goods, while young children played in the streets of the lower town and farmers prepared for the afternoon harvest. As the Citadel stood at the foot of the opal mountains, the sun was entirely hidden by the gargantuan wingspan of a dragon, the mere sight of which made the city guard flinch. It was necessary to react quickly, because this scourge, carrying bad omen, threatened the tranquility of the Sunblight Citadel.
While the city's fortifications struggled to withstand the attacks of a dragon surely attracted by the numerous riches accumulated by the nobles of the upper city, the prestigious war horns of the sentinels sounded as the charge began. The objective was clear, to bring down the dragon before it could take flight again.
The losses were numerous. The spears broken. The ballistas destroyed. The helms shattered.
The city was on fire. The heat was so hot that metal and rock melted, as if the city were sinking into a sea of ashes.
However, hope never wavered, perhaps it was madness? Or simply an expression of repressed despair. No one will ever know.
Nothing more could be done. The dragon's attack was sudden, brief, brutal. Only survivors whose reason is still preserved can tell of the terror caused by this surge of violence. Yet no one can explain why that day their lives were destroyed.
Today, only ruins and ashes remain. The legend of the Sunblight Citadel is still told across the continent, this once impregnable fortress destroyed in a day. Who knows what lies hidden in the crypts buried under the rubble? Who knows where the scourge that struck the city by surprise is hidden? If you dare, enter the ruins of a glorious past, and perhaps you will understand why this Citadel had to disappear.
