Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing Game Sample - SNES/SFC
No Fear Racing is an average (to below average) arcadey stock car racing game loosely based around NASCAR, developed by Leland Interactive Media and published by Williams Entertainment in 1995 and with Kyle Petty being the star driver to drive its advertising force (though it's stated that this may have been done with little to no consent by Kyle Petty himself). The game was modified (and even worse) for release in Japan and went under the name "Circuit USA", published by Virgin Interactive. Besides less graphical features, it removes most references to Kyle Petty. Many sponsors and ads were removed from the game, likely due to the lack of permission to host them as well as Nintendo's censorship policies of the time. There are also several modifications or flagrant inaccuracies with the game's car details and race rules, spotted by avid race fans.
In the game, you race on dozens of circuits or you can make your own (along with selecting a music track for the levels and custom decals). The game supports two-player split screen action as well as a single race feature and season mode, where you race for points and earn cash to buy car upgrades. Gameplay-wise, you do endurance racing and can stop into Pits if your parameters begin to run low or affect performance (different buttons repair tires, restore fuel, or boost extra nitro tanks as necessary). The game uses digitized graphics and limited track designs, which is one of the biggest reasons for the game's mediocrity as no matter how many twists and turns there are, you'll be able to anticipate them in advance (turns don't have stands) and obstacles are almost impossible to see and/or avoid ahead of time. For this reason, every track feels the same. The graphics themselves are subpar (and night stages look awful). The audio is okay and features announcer with limited spoken bits. The game controls okay and you can also pick up nitros and cash on tracks.
Overall, it's not a game I recommend.
