Labyrinth, M.C. Escher & MC Hammer: Future References Linking Vanilla Ice, Jim Carrey, Candy Clark
Part 5 (Of 5)
In this video I show future-leaning easter eggs / predictive references connecting Candy Clark, Rapper Vanilla Ice & actor Jim Carrey (Dr. Robotnik In Sonic The Hedgehog (2020)).
1986 fantasy film Labyrinth (with musician David Bowie & Jennifer Connelly, executive produced by George Lucas) may contain a reference to rapper MC Hammer, a contemporary of Vanilla Ice in the early 1990's. Mainly his dress style & costumes I think were similar to Ice. At around 1 hour 27 minutes into this a scene is shown resembling the painting "Relativity" by Dutch artist M.C. Esher. I couldn't easily explain the link but the artist is also known by the initials MC.
Carrey parodied / spoofed Vanilla Ice in a musical performance on FOX TV comedy sketch show In Living Color in 1991 (S2.E15 "My Dark Conscience").
Vanilla Ice's breakout single "Ice Ice Baby" in 1990 sampled monster rock track "Under Pressure" (1981) by David Bowie & Queen.
Bowie acted in The 1976 sci-fi drama The Man Who Fell To Earth with Candy Clark.
Clark was in-turn in George Lucas's American Graffiti in 1974. Many major actors of the present day got a start in this film which combines hot rod racing, high school love and drive-in diners. Produced by Francis Ford Coppola.
Jim Carrey was in Coppola's Peggy Sue Got Married in 1986.
In the modern age of 2025, the closest thing to Mel's Diner in most American towns is a Sonic fast food drive-in (no relationship to SEGA & Sonic The Hedgehog).
Candy Clark played the mother of Vanilla Ice love interest Kathy Winslow (Kristin Minter) in As Cool As Ice (1991). A predictive anecdotal reference to this may appear in the 1983 horror film Amityville 3-D. In the course of this story, Clark's character is tortured by paranormal activity. At one point a door opens and hits her with an arctic blast of ice and snow, turning her white.
Actor Val Kilmer played Batman to Jim Carrey's Riddler in 1995's comic-book superhero film Batman Forever. Meg Ryan of Amityville 3-D was also in 1986 fighter pilot movie, Top Gun with Kilmer (ICEMAN) & Tom Cruise. The jet airplane shown in this film was the supersonic F-14 Tomcat.
After Burner was a 1987 arcade shooter developed by Sonic creator SEGA. Inspired by Top Gun.
