[Synopsis]
This video shows you how to use Lakka emulation platform on the Orange Pi PC. In this video, I ran a number of emulators on Lakka, like the NES, Sony Playstation, SNK Neogeo, Mame, and PC-Engine to see how to run each. At the core Lakka is very much like Retropie, Recalbox, or Batocera; however, it does not have a user friendly menu. All of those emulator platforms were developed from Retroarch at its core. I also ran different emulators to see how well they ran compared to other emulation platforms.
Lakka has a lot of different emulators on it, like the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, Commodore 64, Commodore Amiga, ZX Spectrum, MSX, MS-DOS, NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Sega Master System, Neogeo, Mame, Sony Playstation 1/2/3, Playstation Portable, Sega 32X, Sega Saturn, and many more. For more advanced emulators, you need BIOS files. In this video, I show the viewer where to put the BIOS files.
On a Orange Pi PC, you will be able to run anything from a Atari 2600 on the low end to a Sony Playstation on the high end. If you try to run anything beyond a PS1, it will not run well. Single Board Computers are limited in what kind of emulators you can emulate without having performance issues. For retro video game consoles and retro arcade games, a SBC like this one is perfect. Playing retro video games on a large screen television is the ideal way to play them, because it is reminiscent of old video game consoles of the 1980s and the 1990s. It is different from playing them on a desktop computer, because it doesn't give you that retro feel, nor is it nostalgic.
Overall, I thought the Lakka emulation platform was pretty good. You had a wide range of emulators you can choose from for different systems, so if one emulator doesn't work you can select another one. It was better than Batocera, because all the emulators I ran on it worked fairly well. In addition, Lakka still has support, so you can update it to the latest version. Retrorangepi on the other hand is a good emulation platform, but it doesn't have any support.
