Landing heavy payloads on Mars is hard. The same general method to land on Mars that was used by the Viking landers is still being used today, but it will reach its limits soon. In this video we will talk about the flying saucer Low Density Supersonic Decelerator (LDSD), Red Dragon, and BFR methods of landing on Mars, as well as looking at existing airbag and skycrane methods.

In this series of classes I will discuss the whys and hows of human exploration of Mars. The goal is to understand the technology required to get humans to the red plant. Feel free to talk with others working their way through on my discord, https://discord.gg/qnn4bmM , in the #satellite room.
