I decide to leave Yvel immediately for the White Tower. Now that we have all four ingredients, there’s no point putting off making the Elixir. I retrace our steps to the city gate, and once we’re out of the city I make our way back to the White Tower. Once we’re inside, I head past our items and go straight to the Altar de Blanca. As noted earlier, this is the location that we need to make the Elixir at, and now we’ll be able to do it. Going up to the Altar causes a cutscene where a headless neck statue fills the screen; our task is to put the Crucible of Faith ceramic head we got downstairs on top of it. When we do, it immediately attaches to the neck and Michael declares that it’s ready to make the Elixir. From there, we need to select the ingredients—the Bloodstone, the vial of swamp water, the vial of hornet nectar, and the vial of earth powder—and put them inside the hollow head one by one. The order doesn’t matter, so I simply go from left to right in the inventory. As each individual ingredient is added, the face of the ceramic head responds by becoming a bit more flesh-colored. Once all four ingredients are added, the whole face lights up and the head talks to us! She congratulates us for assembling all the ingredients, then goes back to normal. We now have the Elixir, and I take the head off the ceramic neck to end the cutscene. Our new task is to find Geron, with the Gladstone Council somewhere in Yvel, and get his key to Richard’s shroud.

I head back to the front of the tower and make sure to collect the items I dropped earlier. There’s now plenty of room, and we can store them all in our inventory without a problem. Once that’s done, I head back to the city of Yvel and begin exploring more of the map. There’s still a lot of rooms to check out, and the first one I visit actually has two locked chests. One of them has a pair of Silent Sandals and a full Bezel Cup, while the other has an Oil Flask and a rock (not useful) but also has ten crowns and Bracers. Money is always nice, and I happily put the Bracers on Paulson to give him more protection. I head into another room where I find an Ace of Oblivion, a major prize—it instantly casts Mists of Doom 4, which can really help in a jam. From there we find a Dracoid fletcher, who acts as one of the city’s merchants. I don’t intend to buy any of his wares, but it’s a perfect spot to sell the items I don’t need. I proceed to sell our Silent Sandals, Chain Mail, and some shirts, and by the time we’re done we have 3176 crowns. Of course, I want to grab every loose item I can find, so I resume searching the city and we quickly find two Aegis Helms. I equip one to Paulson to replace his Great Helm, and put the other in our inventory to sell later.

We go on to find a locked door that can be opened with the Speckled Key we picked up earlier. I use it to unlock the door, then go inside to find some good stuff. There’s the Jade Key, which opens another locked door, and some quality armor—the Plate Mail breastplate, a Kite Shield, and a Great Helm. All those items are weaker than or equal to what the party members are already equipped with, so we’ll sell them all for cash. I leave that room and find another locked door next to it, which has to be lockpicked open. Inside is more excellent stuff, including two Halberd weapon types. These are some of the best melee weapons in the game, and I swap out Paulson’s Great Maul Hammerhead for the Halberd Sever while replacing Baccata’s Great Sword Trouble with the Halberd Widow. From there we go through a few rooms without much in them, although I do find an Ace of Infinity, and then we come across the room leading to the Council of Yvel. Geron is at the head of a table speaking to a gathering of officials, and when we enter he asks where Dawn is. We try to tell him that we need his key for the shroud, but he’s not interested in helping us. We’re ordered to go find Dawn so Geron can give her his key personally, and he then gruffly orders us to leave. He’s being his usual unpleasant self, but at least we’re making progress. We’ll just have to go get Dawn.
