Background Story: Sanctum of Darkness
Under ancient skies, the dark tower was once called Ordan Syrinthal—“The Sanctum of Darkness”—by its enemies. But its creator saw it differently. To him, it was Valanar, the Black Jewel: a towering monolith of shimmering, indestructible material, darker than black and colder than ice. Its surface reflected the sun’s wrath and turned the forests to ruin. Its origin was just as grim.
Long ago, humanity was guided by six divine Orbs, blueprints for a peaceful future—so long as they could be read. But humanity’s heart was flawed. One by one, the Orb bearers fell—some to madness, others to oblivion. Without unity, mankind unraveled. Only the bearer of the Orb of Order remained—and he would suffer the cruelest fate of all.
From the ashes of a mad prince rose a new evil in human form, a manifestation of chaos itself. Known by many names—The Disciple of Deception, The Lord of Havoc, The Prince of Pain—his true name was never spoken, feared to poison the soul. He was no man, no conqueror. He was a force of corruption. Twisting the green Orb of Order into the red Orb of Calamity, he sparked a brutal war, nearly ending civilization. Though ultimately sealed in the Void by ancient heroes, he could not be destroyed.
His name was Azcàdān (az-kah-dane). And now, he has returned—revived by cultists who reawakened the portal beneath Cozy Sun Horizons. The world’s third great war rekindled his strength. Now calling himself Father Sage, he has reclaimed the Orb of Calamity, gathered followers, and begun the endgame.
The Sanctum is more than a fortress—it is a conduit. Within it lies the Orb of Calamity, birthing undead hordes and the horrors of the red moon. Whether these are deliberate creations or side effects of its power is unknown. But to Father Sage, they are mere playthings. Should his power fully return, he will usher in the Time of the Dark Sun—a world merged with the Void, twisted beyond all comprehension. He must be stopped by the last survivors of Navezgane.
