Dear Nerdarchy,
I think I got in a bit over my head, and was hoping you could perhaps help me out (and give general advice.) What do you do when you introduce a villain, in this case the contractor of a lesser villain, who is way stronger than what the party could handle. In my case, I have mentioned a Vampire who contracted a lesser BBEG to do his dirty work by capturing individuals in his tavern and sending them to the vampire. I didn't quite think it through (it was a one shot I sowed into my regular campaign) and now the party of 3rd/4th level characters have defeated the lesser villain, taken over the tavern, I wonderful idea which I was not expecting but encouraged, and will have to face the wrath of a Vampire who is not getting his weekly shipments of humans. I don't want to just ignore the Vampire, since that would take away from the realism of the game, but I also do not want a full on conflict since that would kill the party. Is there another way to resolve this situation? Perhaps its also worth mentioning that I was considering a story line relating to Vampires later on in the campaign. Thanks for your help!
