Mahalo's Windows expert Sean Hewitt shows you how to manage your power settings in Windows 7.

Managing Computer Power
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Power management is managing your computer's power consumption by turning on and off features. To begin, click on the Start menu then Control Panel. Click System and Security then click Power Options. From here you can set a profile for your computer, either Balanced or High Performance. You can also set a profile for yourself by clicking Create a power plan on the left of the screen. You can click on the profile that most resembles the one you want to create: Balanced, Power saver or High performance. Click next and determine how long your computer waits before your display turns off or your computer goes to sleep mode.
With Custom Plan 1, change settings by clicking Change plan settings then Change advanced power settings. You can then decide more options for your power plan like Minimum and Maximum processor power states.
To conserve more energy, lower your maximum power state. Doing so, however, will also lower the performance of your computer. You can also change your Multimedia settings, USB settings and more in this area.
