I conceived an original idea back 2010 that mixes both Japanese and Irish culture to a rather macabre story about the idea of a necessary evil. Most traditional stories would these characters I made as villains but I wanted make them more complex than that, inspired by the likes of Game of Thrones and Berserk.

One is well respected but hides less-than-noble motivations in the same vein as Cao Cao and Oda Nobunaga and the other in lives in the shadows of the first one like a spy and assassin but is better capable of being empathy.

The two main characters are father (Kyoufu O Ceanneidigh) and daughter (Kasumi O Ceanneidigh) (names still yet to be properly finalised), the latter being the central character. Kyofu's design is loosely based on Liam Neeson (Krull, Darkman, Schindler's List, Michael Collins, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Batman Begins, Taken, Grey, etc.) and Kasumi was originally based on Zhang Ziyi (Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Memoirs of a Geisha) but I then looked towards Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royale, Kill Bill Vol 1).

I made the images in Photoshop, put it all together in iMovie and used sound effects from freesound.org. I know it's not-so-much an animation as it is a visual novel.
