LEGO Star Wars Star Destroyer Microfighter (75033) Stop Motion Speed Build and Review
LEGO Star Wars Star Destroyer Microfighter (75033) Stop Motion Speed Build and Review.
It’s shaped like a triangle, therefore looks like a Star Destroyer. Mission, pretty easily, accomplished! Although I suppose it’s only so easy because the Star Destroyer shape is so well known that, for some of us of the nerdier persuasion perhaps, it’s image is conjured up with the very sight of an isosceles triangle (the one with two sides of equal length… wait! Come back, I’ll stop I swear!!!).
This was one of my earlier Microfighters that I got near the start of my reintroduction to Lego as a grown up. Therefore I was very impressed by the use of the 2x2 tiles with technic pins that holds it all together. I grew up with nothing much more elaborate than a combination of 2x2 and 2x4 blocks to bring my crappy imagination to life, so this was impressive to my caveman brain. So simple, with so few parts, and so effective at providing strength and stability. Without this bit of witchcraft the Star Destroyer would easily fall apart as soon as look at it. The rest of the built is pretty simple, but it doesn’t need to be anything more than that to bring the rest of the crude Star Destroyer features to life.
The only part of the build I’m not a fan of is how the bridge and shield generators (or whatever it is - it’s represented by the 3x1 plate with a… “light attachment” piece and slope on each side. It’s like the last part of the build) is integrated. It’s not firmly locked in place, so easily gets knocked out of position or just comes right off. Very dodgy.
The minifig looks the part and has faint printing on the legs showing lines on his pants, but it’s nothing to write home (or an online review) about. Definitely needs to drop those into the dry cleaner before he gets chewed out by some Officer or Senior NCO with nothing better to do. BrickLink just calls him “Imperial Crew” so I’m guessing he doesn’t have the rank to get away with that infraction for too long. I’d have much preferred a Darth Vader or Imperial Officer, maybe even one with a name, but alas we get nameless henchman/crewmen number 34. He definitely dies first. In another franchise he’d have such a red shirt.
As with all Microfighters it looks good on display (particularly next to the UCS Star Destroyer) and is serviceable for play.
