Let's All Play Silent Hunter 3 with SubCommittee - Part 1
***Please read below for more info about what the heck is going on!***
I recently completed a prototype for an app that I'm calling SubCommittee. It uses Mixer's Interactive feature to let my viewers play Silent Hunter 3 on my computer. Think of Twitch Plays Pokemon, only with more interactivity and more crash dives.
In basic terms, the app creates a set of interactive buttons that appear beneath my stream on Mixer. When pressed, these buttons send a signal to Mixer, which in turn goes to SubCommittee running on my computer. SubCommittee translates that button press into an actual keystroke on my computer using a Node.js library called RobotJS.
Since the game state isn't tightly-bound with my app, there are some features that are not yet implemented and which will need some deeper consideration before implementing. I also want to allow for different rulesets, especially assigning specific users to roles on the ship that make them responsible for certain buttons. Eventually, I'd like to allow users to easily define custom buttons that could be used for other games.
I realize that this is an unusual return to making videos.
