How to get started in Software Inc: Start small, keep costs low, invest in new developing companies to fund your business before you start selling your own software. Starting with an Operating System is slow, but once you get it out, you're more and less set.
On any other difficulty than Impossible: Do contracts, a lot of contracts to build your reputation, money and skills (invest in other companies if you want, but it's optional), and after 1-2 years, slowly start building your software or build a software print line and make money with deals.
