Whatever do you MEAN "the computer won't run properly if the HD isn't properly connected to the PC, even if the problem is only a simple fault in the cable connecting the two"?

The good news is that the entire problem was as easy a replacing a faulty cable (and calling a family friend who specializes in computer hardware, if only more so than the rest, although mostly the latter), and that no files were compromised, at all. The BAD news is that, as you can hear, that new audio card is a little mad about the entire "got shot into the PC" business, so I had to resort back to the old one for now, but I'll be DAMNED if I even attempt to fix that right now. At least I now have access to the videos I already recorded and need to render, so uploading will resume as normal. That is, if it ever stopped doing exactly that. This entire mess started and ended in under 24 hours, it would have lasted all of 10 minutes if I knew how to replace a simple cable, hell...
