As I said before, completing the objective is more important than killing the enemy. This game has a branching storyline. For example, we got to Brimstone because of our failure to defend the Exeter in a prior mission. In this case, we needed to focus on the Kilrathi transport and, to the best of our efforts, ignore the fighters. That said, if I had had the fuel, I would have tried to remove a few of the fighters as well.
