While most sewers’ primary function is to transfer domestic and industrial waste to a treatment facility, New York’s sewers are instead primarily for housing vampires, alligators, and the occasional ninja turtle. They are also used to house very sensitive electrical systems and computer networks. These systems are so sophisticated that they use valves instead of switches. Truly a marvel of the Utility Sector!
