Some people don't like The Game Awards because they don't nominate their favourite games or there are categories where they believe a certain game deserves at least a nomination, but it doesn't get one. That's not my problem. If I know a game I love, like SMT V Vengeance, was my favourite game of the year, that is all that should matter to me. I do not need an awards show to validate my love for the game. Instead what my problem is is that the entire show is just the biggest spit in the face to everyone involved with video games in any way. Developers, publishers, actors, composers, and most of all... the players. They don't ACTUALLY care about good games and that is evident by their random selections that are always chucked into categories to pretend like they're cool with the kids. Games no one in that committee even knows about, but when they polled a random group of 17-year-olds a few of them mentioned it so they need to save face by including: A random indie game, a random anime game, or some random artsy fartsy game. Doesn't matter how good Balatro or Metaphor are, they did not nominate them because they care about them. They nominated them to pretend like they actually know about video games, when we all know that this organisation of pompous boomers have never played a game in their life. You could argue that good ol' Geoff does, but he likes to make it abundantly clear that he is not a part of that committee. So as much as we all like to meme on him as the host, it is a larger group of people that are all to blame. It is just a publicity contest where they bait game publishers into giving them millions of dollars to show off their game for barely even 30 seconds with the promise of being "respectful" when we all know they'll just gloss over a cool game trailer by introducing Snoop Dogg onto stage to rap for probably 3 minutes straight and then they'll get him to talk for 5. We all love Snoop Dogg, but we're here to praise some of our favourite games of this year, and yet those beloved games do not get a chance. It is a joke. In fact, it is the second biggest joke in all of gaming. The first is obviously SKILL UP FOR THAT LOST JUDGMENT VIDEO BRO TAKE THAT WHOLE VIDEO BACK MAN
