Age of Empires IV is a real-time strategy game developed by Relic Entertainment together with World's Edge, and published by Xbox Game Studios. It was released on October 28, 2021 for Windows. It is the first new mainline entry in the Age of Empires series since 2005.
As Age of Empires II, the game focusses on the Middle Ages. It keeps the series core gameplay of base building, army management, and ageing up to reach new ages intact.
Some elements, such as requiring drop-off points for resources, are lifted from the series' first two entries, whereas others, such as special structures that allow players to age up, are taken from Age of Empires III.
Age of Empires IV features eight civilisations: the Abbasid Dynasty, the Chinese, the Delhi Sultanate, the French, the English, the Holy Roman Empire, the Mongols, and the Rus. A number of these civilisations represent specific historical factions rather than peoples.
As previous titles, Age of Empires IV features historical campaigns. The four campaigns included focus on the Norman conquest of England, the Hundred Years' War, the rise of the Grand Duchy of Moscow, and the Mongol conquests.
