Coming off the back of an abominable experience in Army of Two Uno, the 40th Day shows a very clear scaling up in budget and savvy when it comes to aping movies in the same way that games at large are doing. This is contemporaneous with things like Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Modern Warfare 2, Killzone 2, etc.—games with campaigns filled with spectacle and cinematic ambitions. You can see very clear influences here, even in the pseudo-"Detective Mode" that is rendered more substantial than the first game. You see a big trend towards having alternative modes of seeing the environment in both the lush, densely populated version to set the scene, while also rendering everything flatly in the alternate mode to ensure clarity of objectives.
This game is better already, although the lack of returning voice actors is a bit jarring.
