Let's Play Binding of Isaac Rebirth Gameplay - Episode 100 - Cozy
2The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth can be considered a remake, expansion, or reimagining (or perhaps all three) of The original Binding of Isaac game and its first expansion, The Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb. Developed by Nicalis and designed by Edmund McMillen, it is a Procedural Death Labyrinth (PDL) style game with Roguelike elements and player progression after death, including new unlocked items after each successive "run" of the game.
The Binding of Isaac originally launched with perhaps little fanfare, but gained a following among YouTube Let's Players due most probably to its high replayability from procedural generation. As a result of the generation algorithms in the game, every run has the potential to be vastly different, while still adhering to an overall structure and ruleset.

The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth has roots which can be traced all the way back to games like the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) classic The Legend of Zelda. Legend of Zelda players would be quite familiar with the room-to-room Labyrinth setup that is pervasive throughout Isaac. In addition to creating its own trends with its dark and twisted story of a boy who is attacking his own mom, his inner monsters, and himself, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth also pulls cues from other modern games with procedural generation and permadeath elements including FTL, Spelunky, and Edmund's own creations like Super Meat Boy. PDL games are quite popular these days, as are the techniques of using roguelike elements, player progression upon death, and procedural generation in general. The YouTube Let's Playing and Twitch streaming communities are consistently growing, and when used correctly these elements provide viewers and players with unique experiences every time they endeavor to play a game.
