As a follow-up to their acclaimed point-and-click adventure of 1996, Broken Sword II: The Smoking Mirror was developed and published by Revolution Software one year later. Maintaining the well-loved puzzles, adventure, and wit from the first game, Broken Sword II includes standard point-and-click interfacing: your mouse hovers over objects with which you can interact, which then can be clicked for additional clues and progress in the game. When these do not progress you, George or another character will often have a witty reply, increasing the enjoyment of the adventure with humor.
The story of George Stobbart and Nico Collard continues from the previous game, the pair having reunited after George had gone home to tend to his dying father. Shortly after returning to Paris, he had hoped of continuing where he'd left off with Nico. She, however, was more focused on a professor of archaeology than on romance. Being knocked out and trapped in a room on fire while facing down a poisonous spider, George has to escape and use his sleuthing abilities once more, this time to learn what the Mayans want and where they've taken Nico!
