Here is the route the GameFAQs guide by "Supernova" would have you take. Follow it in the order red - blue - green - yellow - black, and note that you skip out pressing switch A twice for absolutely no reason.

It was thanks to his guide that I drew that map in the first place, after I realised I didn't remember the level being nearly as big as he'd made it.
