Developed by Compulsion Games, Contrast is a puzzler/platformer where you can move between the 3D world and a shadowy 2D world instantly. Set in a 1920-inspired world of vaudeville, film noir, and jazz ambiance, you play as Didi, the main NPC of the game. Featuring music performed by renowned jazz singer Laura Ellis, the ambiance and immersiveness of the game are quite remarkable. Shift objects in the 3D world to create necessary shadows in the 2D world, or run along a shadow in the 2D world to get to an otherwise unreachable location in the 3D world. Let the puzzling begin!
I'm playing on the PC specifically for this playthrough, for which the controls are WASD, with E to interact, Q (or RBM) to dash, Shift to walk, Space to jump, and LMB to shift into / out of shadows. You also can press R to review collectibles and Backspace to skip a cutscene or back out of a menu.
Didi is estranged from her father, and her mother has recently been murdered. You play as Dawn, a detective and best friend to Didi, who feels like the world has been lying to her much of her life. Dawn possesses the ability to jump from the 3D to 2D world and back again instantly; Didi's family and other characters seem to appear ONLY in the shadow (2D) world, but Didi herself is in the 3D world but can see and interact with the shadow world as well (at least, to a point). Of course, being friends with Didi helps you with getting to difficult places. Your goal as Dawn is to help Didi with her current situation and possibly change the course of her life.
